My Opinion - MCA dares

In the war of dares between Chua Soi Lek and Ong Tee Kiat, regards MCA leaving BN, I do have an opinion ....

Ong Tee Kiat : “The morally-tainted blogger who urged me to write to Umno to state my stand was virtually concerned that the reports in the Chinese dailies would not reach the Umno top brass. This is totally uncalled for as I always speak my mind freely and fearlessly, without having to seek prior approval from any party.

Chua Soi Lek : It is our responsibility and obligation in MCA to convince our partner Umno to see the light. If Umno does not change nothing will happen. That is for sure because it is the biggest party.

Has the ex-Health Minister already thrown in the towel before attempting? Is he saying that since UMNO is the biggest party and therefore even if MCA tries to convince it to change and fails, nothing happens? Isn't this as good as to say "let's wayang kulit?"

Let's face the truth that MCA is a party that is, has been and will always be nothing more than a 'running dog' to UMNO.

I am WORRIED!!!

Permatang Pauh : What - Me Worry?

Since 1952, this idiot kid named Alfred E Neuman has been repeating the famous rengaine 'What - me worry?'.

Mad Magazine would be meaningless without Alfred E Neuman for this is the idiot kid that keeps the readers entertained.

Now move over, Alfred .... you have a challenger .... only if you can identify him from the list below ....

The contenders are .........

1. Datuk Shabery Cheek : BN should not feel upset ... Anwar's victory didn't take away any seat from the existing number of Barisan MPs.

2. Tun Dr Mahathir : He can convince the devil to follow him ... I don't think Abdullah is a match for Anwar.

3. Tengku Razaleigh : The people of Malaysia demand leadership that can be trusted to unite us, to restore confidence in our institutions, and to forge a clear national direction.

4. Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon : Gerakan will continue to be a voice of the people within and outside the Barisan.

5. Datuk Seri Najib Razak : There was not much difference in the number of votes garnered by Anwar when compared with that won by his wife (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) in March.

6. Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi : ..... we do not have to worry .... as Barisan Nasional still controlled 140 seats.

Well ... who will be the icon for Mad Magazine, Malaysian edition?

Ketuanan Rakyat Wins!!!

My heartiest congratulations to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat.

51 years ago, Tunku Abdul Rahman gave the nation Merdeka. We were freed from the British but only to be colonised again by UMNO.

Today, 51 years later, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim brings us the meaning of Merdeka ... Ketuanan Rakyat.

Bravo to the brave people of Permatang Pauh for saying NO to UMNO!

Yes, Merdeka celebration has begun although we are still a few days away from 31-08-08.

Merdeka!

Anwar's victory speech:

We won! And our victory is decisive and overwhelming.

I share in the joy felt by all Malaysians on this historic day. This is a victory for the people. And it’s great to be back!

On March 8th Malaysians voted for a New Dawn. Today, on the eve of our independence day, we have reasserted that call. We celebrate our nation’s independence in the spirit that our founding fathers intended - a nation of one and a people united.

In the face of the greatest adversity, our campaign focused on the issues that matter to Malaysians. Our calls for national unity, good governance and a vibrant democracy have silenced the voices of racist chanting, those who profit from the abuse of power and exploit the politics of fear and deceit.

We have promised a New Dawn for Malaysia and we will deliver on our promise. We will forge ahead on our Malaysian Economic Agenda to revive the economy, and to uplift the poor and the marginalized of all races. We will restore the integrity of the judiciary, fight corruption and build a truly unified nation.

We will be a government that is totally committed to realizing the people’s aspirations.

With the success of the eight of March and tonight’s resounding victory, I daresay we are indeed ready to face the challenges of the future, together.

We could not have won without the firm, unwavering support of our friends in the Pakatan Rakyat and the tens of thousands of Malaysians – Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadhazans - who have come to Permatang Pauh to work hard for this victory. I truly appreciate your courage, conviction and valour; and congratulate your commitment to our shared principles of freedom, justice and democracy.

This may be one small step for Permatang Pauh but one giant leap for the people of Malaysia.

Pelajar UiTM dipaksa berdemonstrasi

'Kami dipaksa, jika ingkar tarik balik kemudahan, diberhentikan' - Pelajar UiTM

Edison University of Technology

The Star reported that Arif Shah bin Omar Shah, the BN's candidate for the Permatang Pauh by-election is currently pursuing a PhD at Edison University of Technology (out-campus programme).

Google: No match for such a university!!!

A phantom university as in phantom voters created by BN?

MALAYSIAKINI versus THE STAR

The Star reported that 'Pusrawi doc sacked for failing to report to work'.

Malaysiakini reported that 'Pusrawi: Khidmat Dr Osman tidak ditamatkan'.

What can one make of it especially we have quite a few cases of alleged misreporting.

DAP Flag

The DAP flag.

All we know is that this is a rocket. Its meaning?

1. Blue circle stands for the unity of the multi-racial people of Malaysia.
2. White background stands for purity and incorruptibility.
3. Red rocket symbolizes the Party's aspiration for a modern, dynamic and progressive society.
4. The four rocket boosters represent the support and drive given to the Party objectives by the three major races and others.

Any indication of Malaysian Unity in this DAP flag?

MCA Flag

The MCA flag. In its official website, nothing is mentioned about its significance, meaning or symbolism! Perhaps they are not even sure what they represent anymore. Neither do they know what they exist for? Headless chickens?

However, even though MCA has a flag without any meaning or symbolism, it does have some kind of aims, objectives and some philosophy. Since my current postings are about flags, nothing else but flags, I shall oblige to reproduce (without permission) MCA's philosophy as stated in its website:

1. to safeguard democracy and freedom
2. to strive for equal status for all races in the country
3. to uphold social justice
4. to promote racial harmony and national unity
5. to promote national economic and social development
6. to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Chinese community.

Please note item 6. Why the need for it when the dark blue canton of Jalur Gemilang emphasises National Unity? And if MCA is going to strive for equal status (2), what have they been doing? They have been in the BN government and have been in a position to make changes. Have they?

Just pause for a moment and reflect. How successful MCA has been throughout its existence? I'd rather not comment as I don't want to suffer from high blood pressure.

For a party with a flag that bears no meaning, no symbolism, I'm afraid this party of headless chickens should just extinct.

Next ... DAP flag.

Gerakan Flag and its symbolism

The Gerakan flag.
1. Red represents Life and Courage
2. White triangle represents Equality, Purity and Justice for All.
3. Green represents Nature and the Earth, the basis of prosperity and of the good life.
4. Golden Padi represents prosperity.
Unlike Jalur Gemilang which has a dark blue canton representing Malaysian Unity, I'm afraid the Gerakan flag doesn't seem to indicate that it supports Malaysian Unity. Apparently, according to its flag, Gerakan is about prosperity and the good life? Whose prosperity and what good life? The ones in power or the ones on the street?

Equality, Purity and Justice for All? Clearly, Gerakan is a big-time failure!

Life and Courage? I don't see Gerakan's courage in standing up against UMNO. That explains why Gerakan lost Penang in March 08 General Election.

So while the electorate cares very much about prosperity and good life, the rice bowl issue or some calls it the bread and butter issue, real Courage to stand up against UMNO in its Ketuanan Melayu could well be the deciding factor whether Gerakan will close shop in due time.

This coming Permatang Pauh might well allow the citizenry to see Gerakan walking around town naked!

Next ... MCA flag.

Malaysian Unity in Jalur Gemilang!

Our Malaysian flag was given the name Jalur Gemilang on 31st August 1997, the 40th anniversary of our independence.

There are some people who think that like Negaraku, Jalur Gemilang was a copycat of the American flag. I have doubts. I shall dwell on this another time.

However, one thing that is interesting to note is that when this flag was first designed and meanings given, dark blue symbolised connexion with the Commonwealth. Later, during Mahathir's regime, in his nationalistic ideology, the colour dark blue is to symbolise 'perpaduan' or unity of the people of Malaysia.

Yes, the dark blue in Jalur Gemilang symbolises Malaysian Unity! Yes, our national flag, Jalur Gemilang emphasises Malaysian Unity!

50 going on 51. Will we rise up together and achieve Malaysian Unity rather than to continue dividing the people?

Update: Malaysia Government 's Official Portal: The canton of dark blue in the upper quarter next to the staff and extending down to the top of the fifth stripe stands for the unity of the people of Malaysia. The union contains a crescent which symbolises Islam, the official religion of Malaysia.

Negaraku - What Malaysiakini should enlighten us.

Get this widget | Track details | eSnips Social DNA

(press play to listen to Terang Bulan)

There still exists ignorance, confusions and doubts as to the origin of our national anthem, Negaraku. There is no shame in admitting that Negaraku originates from Terang Bulan. However, by trying to deny the rakyat the rights to know the truth, speculations do more harm than good.

Mamula Moon or Terang Bulan? It is all written in 'The Authorized Biography of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj'.

Excerpts from the book 'TUNKU: HIS LIFE AND TIMES' by Mubin Sheppard.
Page 106 & 107

Only six months remained before the date which had been adopted for the proclamation of independence. Other accessories of self-government, which were above politics and outside the range of Constitutional proposals, still awaited attention. Tunku possessed rare talents and interests which were of the greatest value to the country at this time. He had been surrounded by royal pageantry since his birth. He knew, by instinct, that Malaya must have a national anthem, Orders and Decorations, Regalia for the elected Ruler, and a form of ceremony for that ruler's installation. There was no central arena where independence could be proclaimed: it must be constructed. Tunku arranged for an announcement to be published, inviting musicians both at home and abroad to compose a national anthem for an independent Malaya. Tunku set up a committee to help him judge the entries, which numbered over seventy and included one by the world-famous British composer, Benjamin Britten. The choice, on musical merit, was scarcely open to debate, but after the first meeting of his committee, Tunku decided that the music of the national anthem of Malaya must be Malay. When they next met to listen to a short list of Malay compositions, Tunku recalled an old melody, once familiar all over the peninsula called Terang Bulan until and even after it had been adopted by Sultan Idris of Perak as his state anthem, in 1888. It had long been forgotten, but Tunku asked the Inspector-General of Police to arrange for the tune to be orchestrated and played by the Police band, and the committee listened spellbound, beside the parade ground at the Police Depot. The quest had ended: Tunku renamed the old tune Negara-ku or My Country, and adopted it as the national anthem of Malaya.

Test Posting - Cannibalism & Babi Balik Cina

I remember long ago when I was in Secondary School back in the 70s. Yes, those were the days when we Malaysians of ALL races could mingle freely. The spirit of Muhibbah was prevalent save for the few bigots and zealots.

Today, it is the opposite. It is the other way around. Instead of a few bigots and zealots, we have them by the hordes.

I remember when I was in Standard 5 and my best friend was an Arab whose father was a doctor. We were classmates. We were the best of friends. Though different in religion, one a Taoist while the other a Muslim, we never argue over whose religion was mightier.

There were occasions when we celebrated certain festivals and I would invite him over. He gladly accepted. I too reciprocated his invitations. We exchanged our cultures. We explained how things worked and whatever we believed in. We were young. We were innocent. We would never argue or fight over a religion or whatsoever religious beliefs.

Then there was a day in school when a bigot who was pissed off for whatsoever reason threw his tantrum at some Chinese boys, uttering the infamous words 'Babi Balik Cina'. Sharif looked him in the face and said, "Who's the babi here? If CANNIBALISM is used to describe who's the babi, the answer could be very clear."

Can you figure out what he meant? Well, I only know that I ain't no cannibal who eat my own kind.

As the saying goes, when you point your finger at others, DO remember that there are more fingers of your own pointing back at you! Especially so with the ones who use the thumb to point!
